Phase 1 construction is planned to begin on Monday, March 18th, 2024. During Phase 1, 72nd Street northbound will be closed at L Street for through traffic. Phase 1 construction is expected to last through the end of 2024. View Detour

72nd & D Street Bridges

The existing bridge is reaching the end of its useful life and the corridor is over capacity during peak travel times. The key benefits of this project is to improve capacity and safety, and decrease congestion.

Project Features

Improvements

  • Replace existing bridges with a wider, lower maintenance bridge or bridges
  • Three lanes of traffic in each direction
  • Sidewalk on east side of road

Schedule

  • 2017 - 2023: Preliminary Design Work
    • Noise, Traffic, Geotechnical, and Environmental Analyses
    • Preliminary Engineering Work
  • 2023: Final Design, Right-of-Way Acquisition, and Letting & Bidding
  • 2024-2025: Utility Relocation, Construction Begins
  • Late 2025: Construction Substantially Complete
